If you are looking for one of the best primer spray guns that we have ever used then you just found it. This FINISHLINE spray gun has everything you need to get you started.

It comes with two different nozzles. The first nozzle is 1.8mm and I use it for smaller projects that require thinner paint. The second nozzle is 2.2mm, and I use this one when I’m dealing with thick paints, sometimes I have to thin the paint if it’s too thick.

This unit comes with removable parts, which means that you may need to disassemble and assemble the sprayer often. But, this process is easy and it doesn’t take a lot of time, plus it makes the clean-up process easier. Except for that, the spray gun is easy to use, has a superior finish quality and it’s durable.

The DeVilbiss 802343 is made for DIYers and homeowners. Although it’s labeled as an automotive primer spray gun, it still does a great job for small and large projects.

What I like about this model is that it comes with two spray guns. The first primer spray gun comes with a 1.3mm fluid tip and a 600cc metal cup. This spray gun is mostly used for smaller projects and it has a perfect tip for the atomization of different coats.

The other spray gun comes with a 1.8mm fluid tip and a 600cc metal cup. This is the spray gun that I use most of the time. It does a great job on priming a surface.

Except for these two spray guns, it also has one more fluid tip (1.5mm) that can be attached to both of these spray guns. The nozzle tips come with different spray patterns.

On the downside, I don’t recommend using this one for thick paint, if you do then you will have to thin the paint before.

What We Liked:

  • Fluid Tips – You will get a 1.3mm, 1.5mm, and a 1.8mm fluid tip

If you are looking for a cheap primer spray gun that will do its job then you should check the Neiko 31216A. This spray gun doesn’t cost a lot of money, but it gives you a good finish quality.

The paint sprayer body is made of steel, and the nozzle is made from stainless steel. This makes this unit very durable. It has a classic HVLP fluid delivery that comes with adjustable knobs, you have three different options to choose from.

It comes with an aluminum cup that can hold 600cc (20.3 fl. ounces) of paint. The cup is very easy to clean, plus it doesn’t spill any paint while working.

On the downside, you will have to clean the spray gun after each use.

Best Primer Spray Guns (2023): Reviews & Buyer Guide (8)

More detailed review ↴

I like AST4008because it’s very easy to use it. The spray gun has a very comfortable design. The body is made from only two pieces which makes this tool more durable and also makes it easier to maintain. You can feel the quality while holding this spray gun.

What I like about this primer spray gun is that it is adjustable. It allows me to adjust the fan from 11″ size to an 8-inches distance. This is good because I can use this same sprayer for different projects and paints.

It features a 1.8mm nozzle, the nozzle is big enough for most of the primers and paints, except for thick paints such as latex. If you want to use latex paint or any thick paint then you will have to thin the paint before adding it to the sprayer.

The best thing about this spray gun is the anti-fill feature, it doesn’t matter what angle you hold the spray gun, the paint won’t spill. We tested it. If you are someone that makes a mess every time you spray paint, then this one is for you.

It’s easy to clean, it’s durable and it doesn’t cost a lot. I’d recommend this to anyone who just started using paint guns and doesn’t have enough experience.

On the downside, just like most primer spray guns, it’s not recommended to use this one for thick paints.

Cleaning Options

While looking at primer guns you will realize that each of them has a different cleaning option. Some of them are harder to clean and some of them are not.

I recommend you to go for models that don’t have to open up completely to be cleaned. You will have to do this every time you are done with the sprayer and it will take you a lot of time.

Cleaning the whole sprayer isn’t bad, but if you don’t have a lot of time then it’s probably best if you go for a sprayer that doesn’t need a lot of maintenance.

It’s also good to find a spray that can be connected to a water hose because that’s the fastest way you can clean your primer spray gun. Sprayers that come with a cleaning brush are good too.

Warranty

I don’t usually talk about warranties but this is important as well. Since most of these primer guns cost a lot then you need to have a warranty. You never know what can happen to your product while shipping. Plus, all of these sprayers cost a lot of money so having a warranty will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Generally, a 1-year warranty is more than enough, but if you are buying a very expensive paint sprayer then you may want to search for one that comes with an extended warranty. Having a sprayer that has a lot of replacement parts is also good, it will save you a lot of time.

Adjustments

If you are buying a regular paint sprayer then you don’t need a lot of controls. But, when it comes to primer sprayer then controls and adjustments are a must. There are a lot of primer sprayers available and all of them come with different thicknesses. If you have a thick spray gun then having the options to change the paint flow and speed flow is very important.

Plus, if you are planning to use the sprayer for more than one project then you need a paint gun that offers adjustments, especially if you are using it for automobile work. Every project needs different paint flow and speed flow. And the only way to archive that is to have a fully adjustable paint gun.

Weight

When you are shopping for a primer gun, you should always look at the weight. You have to keep in mind that you will have to hold that sprayer for a long time while working. Generally, you want a primer sprayer that comes with a lightweight body and a comfortable body. This will help you work longer and complete the project faster.

But, a lightweight sprayer isn’t always possible. If you are planning a large project, then you need a powerful sprayer.

The more power a sprayer has, the more it weighs because of the motor size. So, when it comes to large projects a lightweight primer spray gun isn’t a good idea. But, most of these sprayers come with different features that help you to work longer. Some of these paint sprayers come with wheels, which help you a lot while moving.
